一、石英砂理化特征：
石英砂是一种坚硬、耐磨、化学性能稳定的硅酸盐矿物，其主要矿物成分是SiO2，石英砂的颜色为乳白色、或无色半透明状，硬度7，性脆无解理，贝壳状断口，油脂光泽，密度为2.65，堆积密度（1-2.0目为1.6），20-200目为1.5，其化学、热学和机械性能具有明显的异向性，不溶于酸，微溶于KOH溶液，熔点1750℃。
二、石英砂应用：
1、首先是在玻璃行业的应用：玻璃平板玻璃、浮法玻璃、玻璃制品（玻璃罐、玻璃瓶、玻璃管等）、光学玻璃、玻璃纤维、玻璃仪器、导电玻璃、玻璃布及防射线特种玻璃等的主要原料；
2、其次是在陶瓷方面的应用：陶瓷及耐火材料瓷器的胚料和釉料，窑炉用高硅砖、普通硅砖以及碳化硅等的原料;冶金硅金属、硅铁合金和硅铝合金等的原料或添加剂熔剂混凝土、胶凝材料、筑路材料、人造大理石、水泥物理性能检验材料（即水泥标准砂）等；
3、化工的应用：主要原料，研磨材料（喷砂、硬研磨纸、砂纸、砂布等），清砂、除锈、去除氧化皮处理电子高纯度金属硅、通讯用光纤等橡胶、塑料填料（可提高耐磨性）;涂料填料可提高涂料的耐候性;
4、其次是：应用于铸造、锻造、机械、冶金、热处理、钢结构、网架结构、集装箱、船舶、修造、桥梁、矿山、等领域的清砂、除锈、强化、成形、消除应力及各种型材的表面清理和涂装、电镀前的粗糙度（拉毛）预处理、石材切割、磁丸铸造、作为重型混凝土及高炉耐火材料的添加剂，以增加其耐磨性，耐高温性，抗冲刷性、静电屏蔽、防辐射、油井的过滤罐、配重等等。
5、花岗岩、大理石表面处理采用优质的石英砂为原料专门为体育运动场馆设计生产的草坪专用产品，具有硬度高、比重大、粒度均匀、棱角小、颜色自然等特点，对人造草坪损伤小、形成保护草毛的作用，使草坪更为耐用。得到了国内多家大专院校体育场馆的应用，石英砂是现代田径场、足球场、高尔夫球场等人造场地配套使用的理想材料。
