沸石（zeolite）是沸石族矿物的总称，是一种含水的碱金属或碱土金属的铝硅酸矿物。按沸石矿物特征分为架状、片状、纤维状及未分类四种，它们的共同特点就是具有架状结构，就是说在它们的晶体内，分子像搭架子似地连在一起，中间形成很多空腔。这些水分在遇到高温时会排出来，像是沸腾一般。沸石的名字就是因此而来。
特点：具有比表面积大，吸附性能好，离子交换能力强，化学性能稳定等特点。
用途：广泛应用于石油化工，轻工，环保，建材，畜牧业等领域，也适用于中小型锅炉用水的软化处理，以除去水中的钙、镁离子和重金属离子，从而减少锅炉内水垢的生成，减轻水侧金属的腐蚀，延长锅炉的使用寿命。在废水处理中，可以除去水中的磷和铅以及六价格。失效后的沸石可用浓盐水逆流再生后重复使用

活化沸石：
活化沸石是天然沸石经过多种特殊工艺活化而成，二氧化硅含量达68%，密度为0.75-1g/cm3为灰白色颗粒状。
性能1.沸石活化后孔隙显著增加，比表面积提高，吸附能力成倍增加，可达到甚至超过活性炭的吸附值。而价格却远低于活性炭，是活性炭的理想替代品。
2.离子交换性能也更好，不仅能去除水中的浊度、色度、异味，而且对水中有害的重金属，如：铬、镉、镍、锌、汞、铁离子及有机物：酚、六六六、滴滴涕、三氮、氨氮、磷酸根离子等物质具有吸附交换作用，也有利于去除水中各种微污染物且水浸出液不含有毒，有害人体物质，去除水中铁、氟效果更为显著。
用途：活化沸石是工业给水、废水处理及自来水过滤的新型理想滤料。
