原料：
陶粒滤料采用优质陶土，粘土，粘溶剂等经团磨、筛分、煅烧加工而成，具有表面坚硬、内部多微孔、孔隙率高等特点。以好氧活性污泥作为接种，进水两周即可达到曝气生物滤池的处理效果。陶粒滤料是以粘土为主要生产原料，经配料、成球、高温烧制、破碎、筛分等一系列工艺加工而成的粒状材料。其主要成为偏铝硅酸盐，表观为近球形不规则颗粒，表面深褐色、表面粗糙多微孔，陶粒滤料颗粒粒径可根据不同要求生产。高效挂膜轻质陶粒在物理微观结构方面表现为表面粗糙多微孔，这些特点使高效挂膜轻质陶粒特别适合于微生物在其表面生长、繁殖。陶粒滤料再加上其密度适中、强度高、耐摩擦、物化性能稳定。

主要特点:
1.颗粒圆、均匀、表面粗糙、多微孔、内部孔隙发达，比表面积大，从而生物菌附着能力强，繁殖快、挂膜效率高，低温低浊条件下去除氨氮效果达到国内先进水平，工作周期长，周期产水量大，一般为500-1000m/m。

3.截污能力强，一般位9-13kg/m。
4.滤速高，一般为15-20m/h，最高可达35kg/m。

7.颗粒：5--20mm,最大的是25mm.

应用：
在轧钢废水的处理中，一般采用沉淀、混凝、生物陶粒过滤的方法。除掉废水中的悬浮物 与油后，再经过冷却而使循环使用。
处理水的水质，要求浊度在10-.15度、油含量在10毫克/升
以下。
几种有代表性的处理热轧废水的系统如下:
A.废水~铁皮坑，沉淀池，冷却塔~循环使用。
B.废水~铁皮坑~混凝沉淀池二冷却塔，循环使用。
C.废水~铁皮坑~沉淀池~过滤器~冷却塔~循环使用。
有的工厂对热轧废水，先用铁皮坑，将废水中大部分氧化铁皮和油经沉淀分离之后，再
用压力超高速生物陶粒过滤处理，处理后水经冷却塔冷却后循环使用。
对于冷轧过程中产生的含油废水，一般先用调节池，去除水中的大部分浮油，然后采用
混凝、浮选方法去除乳化油。冷轧废水中的浮油含量约200-300毫克7升，浊度200-40度，
使废水在调节池停留30-60分钟后，出水油含量约10毫克/升左右，经采用混凝、浮选处理
后的流出水，油含量为10-30毫克/升，浊度为20-50度，若再经二级处理，
可获得水质良好的处理水。
